The Price of Leadership Is Loneliness

One aspect of leadership many people don’t talk about is loneliness. Loneliness in leadership is certainly one of the prices a leader must pay as he or she rises. The higher one rises the more pervasive loneliness becomes for a leader.

Why is that? I think one of it is because leadership involves making the toughest decisions alone — most of the time without mentors or friends —creates a sense of loneliness. Once you become a leader, you find it difficult to share your most intimate issues with everyone. Many around you will not be able to see from your perspective. They do not understand your fears and hurts. It is part of the price of leadership.

You don't have to be alone but sometimes it can be lonely. When you do, remember the Word of the Lord to Joshua, anticipating the loneliness that he will face as a leader: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9) #ServeToLead #GrowingLeader
