“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight; but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.” (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)
In my failures and successes; and by observing other leaders, I conclude that the trouble with being a leader today is that you can’t be sure whether people are following you or chasing you. To be a leader that people want to follow, you need to be a good follower first, and never stop to learn and practice how to lead.
Tom Peters, coauthor of In Search of Excellence and A Passion for Excellence, claims exceptional leaders have many traits in common. It is in these little things that make some leaders better than others. Prominent among them are:
1. They soak up information, often take notes obsessively, and realize they can learn from anyone, regardless of title or position.
2. They’re constantly looking for ways to make things better. They’re starving for thousands of tiny improvements. To them, no idea is too small.
3. They delight in the success of others. They never attempt to hog credit. They give credit where credit is due.
Learn to lead. Be a better leader.
THINK BIG.START SMALL.GO DEEP.
