#1Book1Week Lists May 2020

Jorge Luis Borges imagines hope for me, "I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library." Three of God's most important creations: humanity, coffee, and books. I praise Him for books! Here are my #1Book1Week Booklists for May 2020 📖😉⚡

1) Coronavirus and Christ (2020) by John Piper. Here Piper offers six biblical answers to the question, "What is God doing through the coronavirus?" He draws us back to the sovereignty of God. You can download eBooks and audiobooks for FREE. Visit the webpage Desiring God.

2) No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline (2010) by Brian Tracy. What we need to do to achieve self-success is self-discipline. But our enemies are within - laziness and immediate gratification. So, Brian says, "No excuses!" This book is a bit cliché and old school... and yet, gold.

3) The Essence of The Law of Success: 17 Magic Principles to Get What You Want In Life (2009) by Napoleon Hill. This book presents - in a greatly condensed form - the entire seventeen factors out of which the Hill's Law of Success philosophy was evolved. Read with discernment.

4) One Minute Mentoring: How to Find and Work With a Mentor--And Why You'll Benefit from Being One (2017) by Ken Blanchard & Claire Diaz-Ortiz. Using their own mentor/mentee relationship insights, this book provides a good guide into the power and influence of mentoring and encourages readers to pursue their own mentoring relationships. Why, What, and How mentoring in the form of a parable.

5) Tortured For Christ (1987) by Richard Wurmbrand. After years of imprisonment and solitary confinement, enduring inhumane torture, Wurmbrand emerges with a powerful testimony of courageous faith. Even today, believers are suffering and dying for Christ, yet their faith will not falter under the most unthinkable persecutions. At the end of my reading, I asked myself, "Have I been persecuted for Christ?

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone

Brian Tracy said this: "Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.” In this video, I would like to share with you three (3) ways to step outside your comfort zone #ServeToLead #StepOutsideYourComfortZone #GrowingLeader

#1Book1Week April 2020

For the past 2 years (?), my goal is to read #1Book1Week At first, it was the goal that I 'need' to do for personal achievement. But after a few months, I care less about achieving the goal, I just focus on the values, lessons, and pleasure that I get from reading. In short, it becomes my habit. I no longer 'need' but 'want' - even looking forward - to read books. Since April was the MCO month, I read more:

1) The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth (2012) by John C. Maxwell. I reread this book twice because I'm so impacted by it and I've made a YouTube series based on the book. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/The15Laws

2) Lead the Field (2018) by Earl Nightingale. He is a legend, classic self-development speaker. I love his definition of success, namely, it is "the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal" and his teaching on attitude "it is the refection of the person inside."

3) Get Smart! (2016) by Brian Tracy. The actual price is RM79.95 but Popular Bookstore sold it only for RM19.90! I get smart, so I bought it. The actual worth is way more than that! I've read 2-3 books by Brian, and expect that this book is a recycling lesson, but no! The 10 thinking tools outlined in this book is gold.

4) The Storyteller's Secret (2016) by Carmine Gallo. I've read Gallo's other book 'The Apple Experience' and know what to expect - "Wow!" I read this book with the belief that every one of us has great stories and ideas inside us, but it's all useless unless you know how to communicate them. This book will help you with that.

5) The Message of the Sermon on the Mount (1985) by John R.W. Stott. I take heed of J. C. Ryle's advice: next to the Bible, Bible commentaries are important. The Bible Speaks Today (BST) Series is my favorite and go-to commentary. I finished reading this one in 2 months because I use it as my reference book for my #InjilMatius Podcast Series. Check it out here: http://bit.ly/LegasiSpotify

6) The Compound Effect (2010) by Darren Hardy. All the things that I do good (and bad) are the result of the compound effect. Small Choices + Consistency + Time = Significant Results. When I first started a YouTube channel, for months, nobody subscribes and only a few views. But daily I improve my skills and people started to take notice. Darren equips, "The secret of your success is found in your daily routine."

Angelus' Quote: Superior Leaders Are Willing to Admit A Mistake

Not admitting my mistakes came from a sense of superiority and pride. I thought I'm the leader so I must be right. I now understand leadership differently. It's a servant role (or as Robert Greenleaf puts it - servant-leadership).

And like anyone in organizations or committees, you are never going to have all of the answers. Revealing you are human is helpful; good leaders go and find the answers the team needs. But first, if he or she don't know, admit it... Then find the answers

Angelus' Quote: Leadership and Collaboration

Your ability to get everyone working and pulling together is essential to your success. "Leadership is the ability to get people to work for you because they want to."

The 80/20 Rule applies here: 20% of your people contribute 80% of your results. Your ability to select these people and then to work well with them on a daily basis is essential to the smooth functioning of the organization.

"Gain the cooperation of others by making a commitment to get along well with each key person every single day," says Brian Tracy. You always have a choice when it comes to a task: You can do it yourself, or you can get someone else to do it for you. Which is it going to be?
