To My Students

Things I can and cannot do:

I can share your life, but I cannot live it for you
I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn
I can give you directions, I cannot always lead you
I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it
I can take you to church, but I cannot make you believe
I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot decide for you
I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you
I can teach you to be a friend, but I cannot make you one
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish
I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor
I can tell you the facts of life, but I cannot build your reputation
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I cannot achieve then for you
I can teach you to obey, but I cannot answer for your actions
I can warn you about sins, but I cannot make your morals
I can love you as my student and friend, but I cannot place you in God’s family
I can pray for you, but I cannot make you walk with God
I can teach you about Jesus, but I cannot make Him your Savior
I can teach you about prayer, but I cannot make you pray
I can tell you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life*
But in all God can!

I want you to THINK BIG, START SMALL and GO DEEP.

  1. How Did Prophets Pray According To The Bible and The Quran?

And he (Jesus) went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed…(MATTHEW 26:39)

And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship… (JOSHUA 5:14)

And he (Elijah) cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees. (1 KINGS 18:42)

And they (Moses and Aaron) fell upon their faces… (NUMBERS 20:6)

And Abraham fell on his face… (GENESIS 17:3)

And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground. (Nehemiah 8:6)

    HOW MUSLIMS PRAY??

O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good - that you may succeed.

    (Al-Quran, Surah Al-Haj Chapter 22 Verse 77)

"And keep up prayer...and bow down with those who bow down." (Quran 2:43)

    How do you pray?

IF YOU WANT TO PRAY TO ALLAH, I HOPE WHO ARE PRAYING IN THE SAME WAY AS PROPHETS PRAYED IN THE ABOVE PASSAGES IN BOTH BIBLE AND QURAN.

    1. Amazing! You sir, (must be male writer) quoting the Christian Bible verses, do really believed in the Old Testament Scriptures? Hallelujah! I’m curious, do you believe in the New Testament too? Just curious…
Why comparing our ways of worship? The ancient people of the OT prayed like that because God appeared more real, more visible, more dramatic than how He gracefully being with us Christians today. “Grace” is the key word. But you probably don’t understand that… never mind sir.
It is right and recommended for us to worship this awesome God with reverence such as by bowing our heads to the ground like you, my brother Muslim. But you see, dear sir, now we Christians worship God “in spirit and in truth”. To worship God, now we don’t have to be at certain places or at fixed hours or with formal ways of gestures. We don’t need textbooks or step-by-step lessons on how to pray to God rightfully (though it is good to learn).
With Jesus Christ in us and us in Him – His Righteous Spirit, The Holy Spirit – everywhere we can pray. Whenever, anytime. We can dance. We can cry. We can shout. We can be silent. We can stand. We can bow down on our knees. We have freedom to worship! Ah yes, provided we did it with a humble heart, with genuine repentance and total reliance on God. With reverence and holy fear toward the Father, in the name of the Son, Jesus Christ, through His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.

Most of all, when we worship – we have freedom (not chained by religious laws), peace (not with unholy fear) and – God really hears us.

      Had you experienced that before?
Would you like to worship God – for once – “in spirit and in truth”?
Pray to Jesus. Challenge Him, if He is real. If nothing happen… well, you have nothing to lose. But at least you try, okay?

      Peace,
      Rich
