Take the Gospel to Workplace

The biggest hindrance to the acceptance of the gospel by unbelievers is the lives of professing Christians, who often fail to practice what they preach, who quote Scriptures to their fellow-workers but never really trust and live it. I believe that some Christians even regard verbal witnessing in workplace as more important than actually doing their work faithfully. Their thinking is that the ‘spiritual’ taking precedence over the ‘secular’. After finished preaching they then wonder why their fellow-workers (especially the boss) don’t get saved or even interested in the Christian message.

I know these to be true because in the past I was like that.

Now I understand that in Christ, everything is spiritual – including work and the way we do it. For the unbelievers, works must come first before words. Good works must precede Good News. But for Christians, both must come together because – everything is spiritual. The Scriptures declared that “Jesus Christ… is Lord of all” (Acts 10:36, NLT). “All” here mean ALL. Everything. Thus, in the light of work life, Christian men and women are to serve their employers “so they will not bring shame on the name of God and his teaching” (1Timothy 6:1) and to “show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way” (Titus 2:10).

Some fellow-workers will, of course, despite our hard work and trustworthy, misunderstanding our motives. That is part of the price of being a man or woman of God. It is unavoidable. For that, we should take heed of what the apostle Peter writes, “It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you” (1 Peter 2:15).

By all means, treat your fellow-workers with respect, good humor and friendliness. Display integrity and good examples. Avoid a ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude. Soon, when the time comes (I’m sure it will come if you wait and pray about it) your fellow-workers will surprise you by asking, “Tell me more about this Jesus that you serve faithfully”. And then at that moment the Holy Spirit will tells you what to say and how to explain your faith away.
