Do
you manage your emotions well? When someone says something irritating, do you
get mad right away? In my opinion, that’s a sign of poor leadership ability. If
you’re a leader, you’re automatically setting yourself up for criticism. In fact,
all leaders are the targets of criticism – the most visible get all the criticism.
Why? Dr. Myles Munroe writes, “Because they are the head and shoulders
above the crowd and the most elevated. They can easily be seen. The minute you
become a leader, remember that you are a target.” Therefore, you must
be able to control yourself and not allow anger “to immobilize your rational
capacity”.
Proverbs
16:32(NLT) says, “Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control
than to conquer a city”. In other words, you could be a powerful conquer, and
still not be a good leader. A wise leader is one who controls his or her temper
– who has self-control. One of the
fruits of the Spirit is self-control; “…the Holy Spirit produces this kind of
fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…” (Galatians 5:22-23NLT).
Do
you have the fruit of the Spirit?
As
a leader, do you have the fruit of self-control?
THINK
BIG. START SMALL. GO DEEP.
