"Train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value,
but godliness has value for all things,
holding promise for both the present life and the life to come" (1 Timothy 4:7-8NIV)

Fast-food restaurants. Rapid weight-loss diets. Instant
24-hour banking. Getting rich quick. Today’s society looks for instant
gratification and results. More. Better. Quicker. Richer. Often the values of
society shape our view of discipleship. We demand instant godliness, overnight ‘success’
in the Christian life. As a result we end up discouraged and frustrated by the
shallowness of our walk with God. Richard Foster spells out the dilemma: “Superficiality
is the curse of our age. The doctrine of instant gratification is a primary
spiritual problem. The desperate need today is not for a great number of
intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people.” (Celebration of
Discipline, 1978, Page 1)*
Yes, we need not a great number of intelligent people or
gifted people (or nice-voice people, as a matter of fact) but more than that, what’s important is that
we need a deep people (that’s why my philosophy is THINK BIG. START SMALL. GO DEEP.). I believe it is God’s desire
for His people to know Him more deeply and obey Him more fully. For all of this
to happen (yes, by God’s grace), we need to immerse ourselves with God’s Word
and there’s no easy-way, quick-fix, instant deep Christian disciple but to practice
certain ways of disciplines. “Depth, strength, wisdom, maturity – we all long
to be people with such qualities. We want to strengthen our character and
deepen our relationship with Christ. But spiritual depth requires spiritual
discipline.”
Do you want to be a deep person?
Do you want to deepen your relationship with Christ?
Come, let’s go against the rivers of the world, and fix your eyes upon Jesus who enable you to be more like Him.
