Nov Free Book: How Starbucks saved my life

“In his fifties, Michael Gates Gill had it all: a big house in the suburbs, a wife and loving children, six-figure salary, and Ivy League education. But in a few short years, he lost his job, got divorce, and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. With no money or health insurance, he was forced to get a job at Starbucks. Having gone from power lunches to scrubbing toilets, from being served to serving, Michael was true fish out of the water.”

Michael Gates Gill in action...
How Starbucks Saved My Life is a fun story to read, inspiring story to digest and real story to learned from – especially, if you can identify yourself within the story lines. You might not have a big house like Michael was, but you may have a comfortable home to live. You might not have a wife or loving children right now, but you may have close family members around you. You might not have your college degree (at least not yet I suppose) but you probably do have some basic education certificates to get by.
Imagine all that you have, all the things of this world that you are now possessed; power, status, money, health, relationship and popularity are lost in an instant, what would you do? Would you give up or start all over again from the scratch? Would you join the ‘pity me’ party or join the ‘road less traveled’ class? Would you ever learn life lessons from your ‘dethrone’?

In this book, Michael Gates Gill, was an ex-creative director at J. Walter Thompson Advertising, where he was employed for over 25 years, had learned the value of hard work and humility, as well as what it truly means to respect another person. Working at Starbucks had exposed Michael to open his eyes to what living well really looks like. [P.s:I believe that God may humble us (if we are not humble enough) sometimes, up to the point from being served to serving others so that we can realized that in this life; there’s up and down.] The truth is – It’s not what happens; its how you deal with it that’s important.

From Starbucks, Gill confronts all the things that he'd never learned to do; "like the simple self-satisfaction of work, independent living, how to handle solitude, and getting to know people unlike himself. Time and again, Gill points out how his pre-fall opinion of someone and how wrong he was, and his post-fall new, more mature appreciation of them." (book review at Amazon.com)

Truly, Starbucks had really saved Gill's life... perhaps as you read this book, it may change your life... well, if not so significant as it maybe, but at least... You change to become a better person.

THINK BIG. START SMALL. GO DEEP.
