How Many Books to Read?

Some literary sources advise to read fewer books, but read them with greater care. Matthew Arnold gave it as his opinion that the best literature was to be found within the covers of five hundred books. Daniel Webster preferred to master a few books rather than to read indiscriminately. It was his contention that reading a few great writers who have built up the permanent literature of the English language, well mastered, was better than skimming a multitude of ephemeral works.

Hobbs, the English philosopher, once said, “If I had read as many books as other people, I would know as little.” Charles H. Spurgeon counseled his students: “Master those books you have. Read them thoroughly. Bathe in them until they saturate you. Read and reread them, masticate them and digest them… A student will find that his mental constitution is more affected by one book thoroughly mastered than by twenty books he has merely skimmed

Canon Yates suggested that when one has found a book really worth digesting, that three readings are required to absorb its contents. The first reading should be rapid and continuous. The second reading should be careful, slow, and detailed making notes. After an interval, the third reading should be fairly rapid and continuous, and a brief analysis should be written in the back of the book*.

Some books are to be tasted,
Others to be swallowed,
And some few to be chewed and digested” (Francis Bacon)
THINK BIG. START SMALL. GO DEEP.

  1. In the Garden of Eden there were two trees
–-> the tree of life AND
--> the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

So GOD left the tree containing EVIL right INSIDE the Garden....

    Why ?

    --> As a test for human . . .

    -----------------------------------------------

God goes on to say in Deuteronomy 13 that (false) prophets and certain dreamers of dreams are there to test you.

Yet "Yahweh your God is testing you to know if you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and all your soul" Deut 13:4

Was it possible for the devil to deceive angels in Heaven in the presence of God?
    Answer: Yes

Do you think it would be possible for the devil to deceive anyone on earth not living in the presence of God?
    Answer: Yes

How easy is it to be deceived?

    -----------------------------------------------

Question: So could evil writings be in the books that put together by humans.
    Answer: YES

Question: Which writings are evil? (They all look so good)

Answer: The devil is not stupid and would make bad things look good. That’s how people catch fish. Put on some good looking bait with a hook underneath.

--> Did God say there should be 66 books in the Bible?

--> Who really put the New Testament together?

--> Who decided on the books that should go into the New Testament?

Actually you know the answer . . .

    -----------------------------------------------

Why do you like to follow the teaching of paul, who rejected the word of Lord Jesus Christ almost every times?

--> When last did you compare Paul's words to those of Jesus and/or to those of the rest of the Bible?

    John 8:31-32

--> To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

--> Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

    -----------------------------------------------

If you are blind hearted christians, you can choose to remain ignorant...

It's Not about winning arguments here, Its about the truth that Our God are testing/warning us....

It’s up to you to SEARCH out the TRUTH. Your salvation could depend on it! Don’t be deceived.

    1. Hmmm... "the tree of the knowledge of good and evil" doesn't contain EVIL like you said. It gives knowledge, understanding about what is evil. If in the first place you failed to understand the Scripture, then why should I believe or even to consider your argument sir?

My salvation is in Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.
Even if the world against me - my trust and faith is in Him alone.

  2. you are playing with words, but i'm concerning about the clear message.

--> God left Evil inside you, as a test for you to chose. Im not saying that you and evil are one in place.

    ----------------------------------

I mentioned earlier This is not an arguments . . .

"It’s up to you to SEARCH out the TRUTH.....

    My another advise;

Since you dont/never have the original coppies of bible with you right now.
study your bible, please study a good translation of your bible.

You will not find anything about original sin and atonement in the teachings of Jesus. There are other things. Do your own studies. I did mine.

    deuteronomy 31:29

For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and arouse his anger by what YOUR HANDS HAVE MADE."

    -------------------------------

Mat 7:22 "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'

Mat 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

--> Now, please be sincere to yourself, Who is that prophet (Deuteronomy 13) that Using the name of Jesus as Lord, while at the same time (deuteronomy 31:29) rejected every message (Matthew 7:23) and words of Jesus Christ?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus bring the Law and God is One --> Then paul manipulated it --> The Quran Bring Law of Jesus BACK

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sahih Bukhari, Book 55, number 655;

........... "...And if a man believes in Jesus (Esau) and then believes in me (Muhammad), he will get a double reward. And if a slave fears his Lord (i.e. Allah) and obeys his masters, he too will get a double reward."

    1. If do like you said above "God left Evil inside you", then isn't God (your God, not mine) is so evil and morally corrupt with no integrity by doing it?

Deuteronomy 31:29, was Moses' plead for the stubborn people of Israel from idols in the Canaan Land... are you reading the Bible properly?

Matthew 7 "Lord, Lord..." is refering to those who actually doesn't place their faith in Christ but assume or fooling themselves knowing Christ. Jesus deny them because they deny His autority and divinity as Lord and Savior. Read in the context of the verses.

I know that the Bible doesn't have the original copies. I know that. My faith is not blind faith. My faith have its foundations. I read books to know about it... and the more I read about how the Bible now produce - the more I trust in it :) [Ironically, I doubt more on Al-Quran, more than before. And the characters of Muhammad... hmmmm....)

I read these books for research, you can try it too:
      1) 'The Case of Christ' by Lee Strobel
      2) 'The Case of a Creator' by Lee
      3) 'The Case of Faith' by Lee
      4) 'The Case of the Real Jesus' by Lee
      5) 'More than a Carpenter' by Josh McDowell
      6) 'Evidents that Demand a verdict" by Josh
      7) 'The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable?' by F.F. Bruce

      Crazy good! :)
